Elizabethtown Fire Department

General Fund Drive

Elizabethtown Fire Department’s 2014-2015 Fund Drive will run from July 1, 2014 until June 30, 2015. Residents and Businesses are respectfully asked to consider making a donation to help support the volunteers and the emergency services they provide to the community. A fund drive newsletter will be mailed at the end of September to each resident and business. You will never receive a phone call requesting a donation. If you have questions about making a donation, please contact us at 717-367-5300. Below is a copy of the letter you will recieve from us.

Dear Neighbor & Supporter,

Our dedicated volunteers have had a busy year protecting the community. We continue to provide 24/7 coverage while earning the spot as Lancaster County’s busiest 100% volunteer station in 2013! Our volunteers responded to 689 calls for service with an average response time of 5 minutes in the Borough and 8 minutes in the Townships! Volunteers provided 4,515 man hours of volunteer emergency service to the community last year. In addition to these calls for service, our members maintain a high commitment to training. Volunteers invested 3,890 man hours in certified and in-station training. This important training prepares us for the situations which we may encounter as we continue to protect you, your loved ones and your property! We are proud to announce that 94% of our firefighters have been independently certified to a level that meets or exceeds the nationally recognized qualifications and standards for firefighters making Elizabethtown one of only five fire agencies in Lancaster County to exceed a 75% threshold. When seconds count, you can feel secure in knowing that you’ll receive a quick response from highly trained firefighters to help you in your time of need. The time that volunteers invest in responding to calls and training takes valuable time away from family, friends and their paying jobs.

Volunteers invested time in public fire safety as well. During the year, over 60 fire safety presentations were conducted reaching 724 adults and 1,536 children. Volunteers installed 81 smoke detectors in properties last year and we have more available. Please remember the importance of having working smoke detectors and carbon monoxide detectors in your home. Remember to change your batteries when you change your clocks. Please contact us if you need smoke detectors for your home.

The Department continues to operate without a local fire tax in Elizabethtown Borough, West Donegal Township and Conewago Township. Mount Joy Township adopted a new fire tax for 2014. While the fire tax helps generate additional revenue for our expenses, the tax does not cover all of our expenses. We pride ourselves on high quality, professional service to the community. This service is only made possible by your donations and support of our fundraisers throughout the year. We cannot continue to operate as a volunteer department without your donations! Over 55% of our annual operating budget comes from donations! We respectfully ask for your help by making a donation today, of any amount, to continue to support the volunteers who risk their lives to protect yours! Please complete the form below and return your tax deductible donation to us in the enclosed envelope.
